Snail's Postcard Post

California Here I Come

Continuing with Mike the Falcon’s postcard collection, I thought I’d follow the previous postcards of California observatories with Mike’s other vintage views of the Golden State.

It’s cool to see this familiar landmark near the Snail Garden as it was in the 1920s and ’30s. Across the street from Echo Park Lake, the Angelus Temple was the headquarters of L.A.’s celebrity evangelist Aimee Semple McPherson. This was where she preached and held legendary faith-healing demonstrations.

Note: The radio tower is no longer there. Aimee Semple McPherson was a pioneer in using radio to “spread the Word,” and was the second woman ever to be granted a broadcast license.  IMG_8929
