Snail's Postcard Post

Art Collection

After seeing the visionary James Turrell retrospective at LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art), I of course had to stop into the gift shop to look at postcards. IMG_6558IMG_6559IMG_6560IMG_6562IMG_6563IMG_6564Such an appropriate piece for LA’s museum. The first time I saw this intricate installation (check out this YouTube video to get an idea), I noticed how much joy it brought to every viewer. I’d say its great power is getting art appreciators childishly excited. If you want to go see it, know that it’s now only in motion on weekends. IMG_6565IMG_6567

I also recently visited an archive like art-book store called Arcana in Culver City (Los Angeles area), where I picked up two more art postcards:IMG_6568Birds Eye frozen food plant, Darien, Wisconsin.

Next to my favorite esoteric museum–The Museum of Jurassic Technology–is another idiosyncratic institution, The Center for Land Use Interpretation. This postcard is an advertisement for the Center’s exhibition “Perishable: An Exploration of the Refrigerated Landscape of America.”IMG_6570IMG_6571

And I just picked up these at my local record store:IMG_6572IMG_6573
