After seeing the visionary James Turrell retrospective at LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art), I of course had to stop into the gift shop to look at postcards. Such an appropriate piece for LA’s museum. The first time I saw this intricate installation (check out this YouTube video to get an idea), I noticed how much joy it brought to every viewer. I’d say its great power is getting art appreciators childishly excited. If you want to go see it, know that it’s now only in motion on weekends.
Next to my favorite esoteric museum–The Museum of Jurassic Technology–is another idiosyncratic institution, The Center for Land Use Interpretation. This postcard is an advertisement for the Center’s exhibition “Perishable: An Exploration of the Refrigerated Landscape of America.”
